I love his quotes, because he speaks to us as though he knows we are aware of our human imperfections and are doing our best to survive them. We know our own failings as well as our successes. Some that are generic to the human race are comical when you take a wide angle lens to them. Our human nature limits us because not one of us is perfection in any sense of the word, we are all just moving along day to day, trying to do our best to survive.
Mark Twain recognizes the human condition for what it is and pokes fun at himself and everyone else. When I realized how funny he was, that was the day he became my favorite writer. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good, deep thought provoking book or story as much as the next person. But, when life gets tough, the tough find something funny to laugh about. It’s a great survival technique and many of Mark Twain’s writings show us the way.
